[livejournal.com profile] emily25096 asked my how to add my blog to her friend's page, and I thought I'd mention it here in case any of my other friends would like to read my blog without having to go to a separate site from Live Journal!

Here's how to put my blog entries on your friends page: Go to this page and click on "add this user". Basically all it does is feed my blog entries onto your page, nothing else, since that isn't a LJ "account". That way you know when I've updated my site without having to check another website. :)

Tammy, what version of the bible do you use? Do you ever use a different version of the old testament? New JPS? Have you heard of the Karaites?

Thanks
Jen

Hi, Jen! :)

We usually use the NIV for our family/personal devotions... We don't use a different OT translation, though Joshua does have a translation that is only of the five books of Moses, and I know he enjoys that one... but we haven't read much of it together. :)

I've heard of the Karaites, but that's about it. :)

I'm really confused about the differences between Jewish practice and belief in Jesus' day, and now with the addition of and focus on the Mishna and Talmud over that of the Law and Prophets.

On top of that, every Jew I ask tells me they are not awaiting a savior for their sins. They're looking for political aid or an age of peace. Even the wikipedia entry on the Jewish Messiah doesn't say anything about a savior for sins.

It feels like there is a huge disconnect between the historic Judaism that Christianity is connected to versus the Judaism that exists today.

What's your perspective on this?

Hmmm... big topic!! :)

It feels like there is a huge disconnect between the historic Judaism that Christianity is connected to versus the Judaism that exists today.

I imagine anyone on the "outside" could say the same thing about New Testament believers vs. the church(es) we have today... :(

True. The apostolic age is what the church was built on. They had a slightly different purpose than we do now. But still, the church today is a mess.

Does the owner of the other blog/whatever have to set up a special page at LJ for RSS feeds, or could I do it if I wanted to follow friends blogs on other sites? Just curious as to whether I could follow everyone from LJ, instead of jumping around several sites...

Anyone can set up the rss feed page at LJ. Abigail Paul set up the one for my site, tammysrecipes, since I didn't know how to do it at the time. :) So yes -- any site that has a feed that you want to follow, you can syndicate it through LJ. Might take some time if you need to set up a lot of them, though! :)

Okay, figured it out. Not hard to do, but you have to be a paid member of LJ.
